New Build House - Erskine Road, Walthamstow E17
Sometimes it is impractical or impossible to replicate the design and proportions of the surrounding buildings, if for example the plot size is far too small and there are height restrictions, and particularly if the surrounding buildings are period houses as was the case on this project. In these cases the best approach is to adopt a design which completely contrasts with the surrounding architecture, using modern design and materials to juxtapose the period design character of the area. This approach is also favoured by planning departments. This was a very interesting project and achieved great value from what was a very small plot, which was formerly part of the neighbouring house’s garden. A two bedroom house was achieved, with a small courtyard rear garden. The property certainly has character, and makes its mark in what is otherwise an area of Victorian houses. Humphreys and Sons were involved from start to finish, advising on the purchase of the site, producing all designs, drawings, obtaining permissions, building regulations, NHBC home warranty permission, public sewer build over and new connection permissions, new utilities applications, party wall agreements, health and safety consultancy, builder contracts, and full supervision of the building works on site.
Client Testimonial
“We always use Humphreys and Sons on all of our projects, They did a great job here and were very easy to work with, and the contractors on site spoke very highly of the input and help they were able to provide on site during the build. It was amazing that we managed to squeeze a new house onto such a tiny plot, and they helped us deal with all of the complications and awkwardness that comes with such a tight site. We are very happy with the work that they did and their service, as usual.”
